Anesthesiology: A “lifestyle” profession  

Speaker: Prof Paolo Pelosi (Genoa, Italy)

Professor Paolo Pelosi grew up in Milan and attended University of Milan, graduating magna cum laude in Medicine and Surgery. He is currently Chief Professor in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care and Director of the Speciality School in Anaesthesiology at the University of Genoa as well as Head of the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Unit at the San Martino Policlinico Hospital, Genoa, Italy. He is the current President of the College of Professors in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Italy. He served as President of the European Society of Anaesthesiology, ESA (2010-2011). He also covered the position as Head of the Respiratory Intensive Care Assembly at the European Respiratory Society, ERS and Council member of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive Care and Critical Care Medicine, WFSCCM. He is honorary member of several scientific Societies of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Europe and outside Europe. He was awarded of the T. Cecil Grey BJA medal and of the International member of the Brazilian Academy of Medicine. He is Author or Co-Author of more than 400 original papers, 163 papers under invitation, 105 book chapters, and he has lectured in more than 1540 national and international meetings on ventilation management during the perioperative period and on the pathophysiology and treatments of acute respiratory failure.
